BOTOX® aftercare guide for the first 48 hours in Bloomington MN

If you came in because you trust Renee and you don’t want to be pushed into anything you don’t need, I’m going to keep this simple: don’t rub or massage the treated areas for the first 24 to 48 hours. That one habit protects your placement while BOTOX® settles. Here in Bloomington, I see a lot of people squeezing appointments in before errands or travel, so this guide focuses on what actually matters in the first two days.

The first 4 hours after BOTOX®: upright, hands off, and calm

Right after your appointment, I want you to think “upright and untouched.” Stay upright for 4 hours. That means no lying flat, and skip the deep forward bends. It’s a small thing, but it reduces the chance of product shifting before it’s settled where I placed it.

Keep your hands off your forehead, glabella (the “11” area), or anywhere else I treated. No aggressive face washing. No gua sha. No massage tools. If you feel a little tenderness, that’s usually normal. Let me know if something feels sharp or out of proportion.

Quick checklist: Stay upright for 4 hours. Don’t rub or press the area. Skip hats that squeeze the forehead tight. If you wear glasses, normal wear is fine, but don’t push them up and down on freshly treated skin.

Exercise and sweating in the first 24 hours

I generally recommend you skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours. Heavy sweating and heat can increase redness and swelling, and it’s not worth risking bruising when you’re trying to look fresh fast. In Bloomington’s August weather, that also means taking it easy on long outdoor workouts and hot yoga.

Alcohol and bruising control

Avoid alcohol for 24 hours if you can. It tends to make bruising easier for some people. If you notice mild swelling or tenderness, a cool compress can help. Keep it gentle and don’t press hard.

Days 2 to 7: when “it’s only been 4 days” is completely normal

One of the most common things I hear is some version of: the “11” area already looks great, and the forehead is close but not fully there yet. That’s normal. BOTOX® doesn’t usually snap on instantly. You’ll often see changes start in a few days, then continue building toward your full result.

During the first week, keep doing the basics well. Don’t massage the treated areas. Keep heat exposure low, especially if you tend to flush easily. If you’re shopping at Mall of America after your appointment, skip the sauna style heat experiences and keep the post treatment plan simple.

And if you loved that your visit felt “quick, easy, and painless, ” protect that result by avoiding anything that adds pressure to the area. Tight goggles, aggressive facial devices, and firm brow rubbing are the usual culprits.

Makeup, skincare, and showering: the simple rules that keep things smooth

You can usually go back to normal life quickly, but I want you to be intentional for a day or two. Makeup is generally fine once any pinpoint bleeding has stopped. Apply it with a light hand. Pat, don’t scrub.

When you wash your face, use a gentle cleanser and lukewarm water. Avoid exfoliating acids the same day if your skin gets reactive. Skip picking at any tiny injection marks. They fade quickly if you leave them alone.

Two weeks matters for pressure based services

Wait about 2 weeks before facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or dental work that involves significant pressure near the treated areas. If you’re already booked for something like intense pulsed light, let me know and I’ll help you space things out so nothing competes with your BOTOX® result.

Travel, flights, and South Bloomington scheduling: what I tell MSP travelers

If you’re flying out of MSP, you can usually fly after BOTOX®. The bigger issue is what happens around the flight. Don’t rub your face while you’re tired in an airport seat, and avoid stacking BOTOX® with a same day high heat workout or a night of drinks.

For my South Loop and Mall of America area clients, I like appointments that give you a calm window after treatment. If you work hospitality or you’re on an evening shift, that might mean booking so you have at least four upright hours before you’re tempted to crash in bed. If winter travel disruptions mess with follow ups, tell me early so I can adjust your timing and keep your plan realistic.

If you’re new to injections, I also have a guide on what to expect from your first BOTOX® in Bloomington. If “11s” are your main focus, you’ll probably like BOTOX® for 11 frown lines too.

When to reach out to me, and what’s normal vs not

Normal after BOTOX® can include mild redness, small bumps at injection points that settle quickly, light tenderness, and occasional bruising. It’s also normal to be in that “waiting” stage at day 3 to 5, especially if one area is responding faster than another.

Reach out if you notice unusual swelling, severe pain, a new headache that feels intense or doesn’t improve, or asymmetry that worries you. I would rather you check in than sit at home spiraling. My team is careful about safety. A long time patient once shared how our staff caught a medication detail during pre treatment questions and paused the service to reschedule instead of pushing forward. That’s exactly how I run things.

“Renee was great! She did my Botox and it was quick, easy, and painless. She mapped it out and made sure I was ok with everything.”

It can increase the risk of product shifting before it settles. I tell clients to avoid rubbing or massaging treated areas for at least 24 to 48 hours, including facial massage tools and aggressive cleansing.

Most people can fly after BOTOX®. The bigger aftercare priorities are staying upright for four hours after treatment, avoiding rubbing the area, and skipping heavy exercise, heat, and alcohol for the first day.

I recommend waiting about two weeks before facials, chemical peels, laser treatments, or dental procedures that involve significant pressure near the treated areas.

Non surgical body contouring treatments are in office services that target concerns like stubborn fat, skin laxity, or texture without an operation. People often pair these with injectable appointments on different days so each service has the right recovery window.

Facial contouring is a broad term for treatments that refine facial shape or balance. BOTOX® can play a role when relaxing certain muscles softens lines and changes how the face moves, but contouring can also involve skincare and energy based services depending on your goals.

Body contouring procedures can be surgical or non surgical. Surgical body contouring is typically done in an operating setting and has a longer recovery. Non surgical options tend to have little to no downtime, but they usually require a series and a realistic timeline for visible change.
