miraDry longevity: a real timeline (and how to make it last)
By Envy Skin Clinic | October 13, 2026
Quick answer: Most people see a substantial and lasting reduction after one miraDry® treatment. A second treatment is sometimes recommended, and a small number of people choose touch-ups years later.
I hear the same question all the time in consults: “How long does miraDry last?” And I get it. If you work hard for your money, you want to know it’s going toward something that actually holds up. miraDry is designed to permanently reduce underarm sweat by treating the sweat glands in the underarm area, and most people feel a meaningful change quickly. The part that trips people up is the timeline. What you feel in the first couple of weeks is not always your final result, especially here in Bloomington where humid summers make sweat reduction feel way more dramatic in July than it does in February.
The 0 to 12 week miraDry timeline (and why Bloomington humidity changes how it feels)
Here’s the honest timeline I share in South Bloomington consults, including what’s normal and what actually affects how long miraDry results last.
Right away to week 2: “I’m already sweating less” is common
A noticeable reduction can happen fast. You may still have swelling, tenderness, or a “puffy” feeling, so I don’t judge final results here. I also remind people that in a dry Minnesota winter, your baseline sweat is lower anyway, so the change may feel subtle at first.
Weeks 2 to 8: swelling calms down, the pattern becomes clearer
This is when you start noticing your “new normal.” If one side feels different than the other, or you still have a small strip of sweating, this is useful feedback. Coverage matters with miraDry. When we map and treat thoroughly, results tend to last better.
Weeks 8 to 12: this is the “settled” result for most people
Final results typically settle as swelling resolves and your body processes the treated glands. If you did your treatment in fall or winter, you often hit that “settled” mark well before Minnesota’s hottest stretch, which is exactly why I like seasonal planning here.
A Bloomington reality check: We get four distinct seasons. In February you might think, “It’s okay, I guess.” Then July hits, humidity ramps up, and you realize just how much sweat reduction you’ve gained.
Making miraDry results last longer: the habits that actually matter
miraDry targets only about 2% of your body’s sweat glands, in the underarm area. Your body doesn’t regenerate the treated glands, which is why the result is considered long-lasting. But longevity still depends on good aftercare, steady body changes, and catching “missed spots” early instead of waiting and hoping.
- Take swelling seriously the first week. Ice packs, gentle movement, and following the post-care I give you helps you heal cleanly and makes it easier to judge results later.
- Keep your weight as stable as you reasonably can. Weight fluctuations and hormonal shifts can change sweating patterns over time. I’m not asking for perfection. I’m saying big swings can muddy the “before and after.”
- Know your triggers and limit them when it matters. Spicy foods and excess alcohol can push sweating. If you’re heading into a week of public-facing work or travel out of MSP, it’s worth being a little strategic.
- Use deodorant or antiperspirant again when you’re ready. Some people don’t need it. Others like a light layer once the skin is calm. If you’re unsure, ask me and I’ll guide you based on how you’re healing.
- If odor is your main issue, say that upfront. Sweat and odor aren’t always the same problem. I’ve had patients who were thrilled with sweat reduction and still wanted a follow-up plan for odor.
- Don’t wait years to address a coverage gap. If one area still sweats more, a second session spaced months apart can often tighten up the result.
"It has been 10 days since I had the procedure done. I love the results. I had an important presentation today and I felt comfortable, confident, and simply happy!"

Why miraDry fades early for some people (and how I prevent that)
When people tell me “miraDry didn’t last, ” it’s usually one of a few things, not a mystery. The biggest one is coverage. If a section of the underarm didn’t get fully treated, you’ll feel it, often as a strip or patch that still sweats.
Another factor is timing and expectations. If you judge results too early, swelling can make things feel uneven. And if life changes, including hormones or weight swings, sweating patterns can shift even when treated glands are gone.
My approach is straightforward: I’d rather answer every question in your consult, map carefully, and set realistic expectations than rush you through. That “no pressure” feeling people mention about our clinic is intentional.
Second treatments, touch-ups, and the best season to plan miraDry in South Bloomington
Many people are one-and-done. Some benefit from a second miraDry session spaced months apart. Touch-ups years later are less common, but they do happen, usually when someone wants to tighten up remaining sweating or odor.
If you’re local to Bloomington, Richfield, Minneapolis, Edina, Eagan, or Burnsville, planning this around our seasons is smart. Fall and winter often make recovery feel easier, and you give yourself time to reach that “settled” result before summer heat kicks in.
And yes, I keep it convenient. I’m in South Bloomington (Mall of America / South Loop area), so it’s an easy stop if you’re shopping, commuting through, or traveling out of MSP and want a quick consult or follow-up.
If you’re comparing options: miraDry vs Botox (and where intense pulsed light fits in)
A lot of people come in after trying temporary options. Botox for underarm sweating can work well, but it’s not designed to last the way miraDry is. miraDry is appealing when you want a long-lasting change and you’re tired of repeating appointments just to stay even.
I also get asked if intense pulsed light is an option for sweating. Intense pulsed light is something I use for skin concerns like discoloration and overall tone, not for underarm sweat gland reduction. For sweat control, miraDry is the conversation.
My promise in your consult: I won’t push you into something that isn’t right for you. I’ll tell you where your money is best spent, even if that means waiting, spacing treatments out, or choosing a different plan.
Talk to me before you commit: a simple consult plan
If you’re thinking about miraDry, start with a consult. I’ll ask about your sweating pattern, odor concerns, past treatments, and your timeline, especially if you’ve got travel, presentations, or a long summer work season coming up. Retail and hospitality workers, frequent flyers out of MSP, and anyone who’s in front of people all day usually want reliability, not “maybe it helps.”
If you already had miraDry and you’re wondering about a second session, I’ll help you decide based on what you’re noticing now and where you are in that window.

Is miraDry permanent or will the sweat come back?
miraDry is designed to permanently reduce underarm sweat because the treated glands don’t regenerate. That said, “permanent reduction” doesn’t always mean “100% dry forever.” Some people choose a second treatment to improve coverage, and a small number decide on touch-ups years later if their goals change.
How long after miraDry will I see the full results?
Many people notice improvement quickly, but full results typically settle as swelling resolves. Swelling needs time to calm down, and that’s when the “true” pattern shows itself.
How many miraDry treatments do people usually need?
A lot of people are happy after one treatment. Some benefit from a second session spaced months apart, especially if we’re tightening up coverage or targeting remaining odor or sweating.
Can I still use deodorant or antiperspirant after miraDry?
Yes. Once your skin has calmed down and you’re done with immediate aftercare, you can use deodorant or antiperspirant again if you want. Some people find they don’t need much anymore. If you’re not sure when to restart, ask me and I’ll guide you based on how you’re healing.
Will miraDry make me sweat more in other areas of my body?
Most people don’t notice “extra” sweating elsewhere. miraDry treats a small percentage of your total sweat glands, and your body still cools itself normally. If you’re worried about how your body tends to react, bring it up in your consult and I’ll talk it through with you.
